Richard ‘Danger’ Moore could not have hoped for more. A race win effectively gifted to him when the front row starters spun off together at the first corner, brake failure for the championship leader Paul Manuell on the penultimate lap and a zero points haul when he couldn’t get out of the gravel trap to take the chequered flag contrived to turn the championship battle for the PORTERGROUP V8 battle on its head with just one race to go. Moore made a great getaway from the third row and slotted into third heading into Turn 1 for the first time. Front row sitters Simon ‘The Bandit’ Ussher and Glen ‘Coyote’ Collinson got away slowly, but were still ahead approaching the corner. They were the first of the field to feel just how slippery the Hampton Downs surface were and both overestimated the grip available, spinning round in formation and allowing Moore through to a lead he was never to lose. Manuell’s progress had been pretty solid from the lights, gaining four or five places within a lap or so. He did exceptionally well to get through a fierce midfield scrap that involved Brett Rudd and Jamie Gaskin before setting off after Geoff ‘SOS’ Spencer who was holding a solid fourth place behind Moore, and a charging Matt Spratt and Andrew Porter. It all came unstuck on the last lap but one for the champ when the brake pedal went to the floor on Turn 4, pitching the ORIX Holden deep into the sand trap on the outside of the corner. Ordinarily, Paul would have still picked up points as he would have driven back onto the track and taken the chequered flag, but his brake failure put him in the deepest part of the sand trap and there was no escape. points. Matt ‘Stinger’ Spratt quietly had one of his best races of the season, coming from the back to second place, while Geoff ‘SOS’ SPencer continued his c ompetitive run thisd weekend with another third place result.  Andrew Porter bagged a fourth place from the back, while Jamie ‘Slenderman’ Gaskin completed the top five after a feisty drive in the Ryco 82C Stadium Finance Ford. With one race to go in the 2016/2017 championship, Richard Moore leads Paul Manuell by 13 points. Are there any more twists and turns left in what has been a remarkable championship battle?
